The third RIBSA Senior Ladies ranking event of the season was held on Sunday the 8th of January in Q’s Snooker Club in Dublin. Michelle Sherwin, Claire Mill and Paula Judge were all tied on points after the round-robin stage; so there was a playoff to get the 2 finalists. Michelle beat Paula and Claire; then Paula beat Claire to join Michelle in the final.
The final was a classic. Michelle got off to a great start taking the first 2 frames; Paula then settled well and potted some fantastic balls off the cushion to keep breaks going; and coupled with some excellent safety; Paula came back to win the next 2 frames and tie the match at 2-2.
Paula took an early lead in the final frame, and with both players feeling the tension, there was some silly errors from both players. Paula had a 20 point lead coming to the colours. Michelle took yellow to pink, potting a superb long blue to keep the break going, and left herself an awkward cut on the black to the middle which she missed and left on the back cushion. Paula safety left Michelle a chance on the black to the yellow pocket, which she potted to win the frame and match. It was an excellent match from both players.
RIBSA would like to thank Q’s for the use of the Club, and a big thanks to Mick Flood for his caretaking duties.
