The first RIBSA senior ladies ranking event of the new season took place in Newbridge CYMS on Sunday 18th October. There were 2 events held on the same as a senior tournament and an intermediate tournament were held for the first time and both events were hailed a big success.
The senior event took on a new format by playing a round-robin first, with 1 point being awarded for each frame won. After the round-robin the top 2 players competed in the final. The final was contested by Claire Mill and Michelle Sherwin. Michelle won the 1st frame comfortably, Claire came back strong in the 2nd to level at 1-1. The 3rd frame was very close with Michelle narrowly taking it to take a 2-1 lead.
The next frame was also very close throughout with both players on top form, but Michelle potted a fantastic blue to leave Claire needing a snooker. After a few attempts at the snooker, Claire accidentally potted the pink to give Michelle the frame and match. It was a great close final, and for the first tournament of the season the high standard throughout from all of the players will ensure this will be a season that will be well contested.
RIBSA ladies would like to thank Newbridge CYMS for the use of their wonderful club yet again, and we would also like to thank Parks father for all of his help in making the event a big success.
