The 4th Ladies ranking event took place in Newbridge CYMS on Sat 10th January. Claire Mill took on Ronda Sheldreck in the bottom half of the draw. Claire was in good form and quickly got into her stride, and although Ronda showed some great improvements from the coaching she is getting, Claire was just too strong and showed her experience by running out a 3-0 winner in this match.
Claire went on to meet current number 2 Michelle French in the semi’s. Michelle won a closely fought 1st frame with a cracking pink with the rest. The next 2 frames went all the way to the wire aswell, with Claire narrowly winning both of them. Claire got off to a good start in frame 4, gaining about a 25 point lead which she held onto throughout the frame; at one stage Michelle needed 3 snookers, which she got 2 of but when Claire took a nice blue to the green pocket Michelle conceded the frame and so the match to Claire. The other semi-final seen young Katie French taking on number 1 Michelle Sherwin. Michelle won the match 3-0, but Katie showed signs of great improvement, potting some cracking balls.
In the final Sherwin won the first frame comfortably, Mill won the next one on the pink, the next 2 frames were shared on a black ball to make the score 2-2, and bring the final to a dramatic final frame. Mill took an early lead in the frame; Sherwin came back with a 37 break to take a narrow lead going into the colours. Mill took yellow and green, then rattled the brown to leave Sherwin a relatively easy clearance which she took to win the frame and match and her 4th ranking event of the season.
The ladies would really like to thank Leo from CYMS for his help and the use of such a great facility. Thanks for being so patient. The next ladies event will take place in Q’s, Clondalkin on Sunday 8th February.
