The second ladies ranking event took place in Celbridge SC. Two of the new lady players made their 1st appearance in a semi-final. The first semi-final seen our first ever mother and daughter match as young Katie French took on her mother Michelle French. Michelle won the first frame comfortably but was pushed right to the end in the 2nd, only winning it on a closely fought black ball. Michelle went on to win the next frame and take the match 3-0, but a big hand goes out to Katie for such an excellent performance.
The 2nd semi-final seen Rhonda Sheldreck take on Michelle Sherwin. Michelle won the first frame with some consistant potting. Rhonda stepped up a gear in the 2nd frame and pushed all the way to the end with Michelle only winning the frame on the black. The 3rd frame was also a close affair, with Rhonda growing in confidence as the match went on. Michelle won the frame after a good battle to win the match 3-0.
Sherwin got off to a great start in the final, winning the 1st frame by a good margin, as French got her game going. French played some stunning stuff from there on in, never really missed a pot, and scored consistently to take the frame to the colours. French was in control and looked set to win the 2nd frame when she went in off the blue, and left it on for an easy blue and pink for Sherwin to win the frame. The 3rd frame went all the way to the black aswell, with both players having a couple of shots at the black each before Sherwin pot it into the yellow pocket with the rest to take the match by 3-0. Sherwin commented afterwards that it was some of the best snooker French had ever played and she had certainly made her feel pressured from the 2nd frame on.
A big thanks go to Phil Martin and his staff in Celbridge for the use of the facilities and all of their help on the day. The next ladies tournament date has been changed to Saturday 6th December in Q’s SC Clondalkin at 12pm.
