THIS WEEKEND at Fermoy Snooker Club will be the Cork County Under 14 Snooker Championships, next week will have the full report on this very important event.
CORK league snooker continues in the ‘Cork Billiards and Snooker Association’ (CBSA) as it has completed ‘Week 6’ of league matches and as ever in divisions one and two, the standard is very high and the results as ever are unpredictable at times.
Last week saw the division one Youghal CYMS ‘A’ side lose a league game for the first time in over a year and a half when the AOH ‘A’ team traveled to the ‘Market House’ in the East Cork seaside town and take three vital away points, but this week Youghal bounced back to gain revenge on the Morrison’s Island club by winning away from home and as everyone knows home advantage is so vital in the ‘Garry McCarthy Trophies’ CBSA Cork league and for both these sides to reverse their home form into away wins was quite unusual.
It was a very tight match, which could have gone either way due to solid performances by Youghal’s Aaron Tobin who knocked in a 112 break in his victory over Gary Bracken and Brendan Cooney who saw off David Forde plus the equally impressive AOH’s Shane O’Mahony and Kevin O’Leary who defeated Youghal’s Kenny Wight and Derek Aherne respectively, so it came down to the match between Lloyd Myers of the AOH and Youghal’s Christopher Cooney and the Youghal man had enough to seal victory for the East Cork club, strengthening their position at the top of the league.
Meanwhile Youghal CYMS ‘B’ were in top form at home against Fermoy with Ger Kelly, Chris Lyons and Reece Roche all cueing well on their home tables to seal victory following their previous week’s defeat to Fermoy in the newly re-furbished Fermoy club in the North Cork town.
The defending champions ‘The Crucible’ are in devastating form as they demolished Shooters ‘A’ in Blackpool without dropping a frame. Greg Casey, Ryan Cronin, David Cassidy, Dion Burns and Dean Callanan were all comfortable at their tables and if this is an indicator of what is to come, the rest of the league better watch out as the Crucible look hungrier than ever to secure yet another CBSA league title.
In Division two of the ‘Garry McCarthy’ CBSA Cork snooker leagues The AOH ‘B’ are foot perfect so far and look a real possibility this season. The AOH travelled to the Crucible snooker club this week to play the Crucible ‘C’ team and walked away with all three points after strong performances from Donncha Corcoran, Mark Walsh and Shazhad Hussein.
It wasn’t such a great week for Shooters as their ‘B’ side fell afoul of the defending champions the Crucible ‘B’ side. Again the Crucible ‘B’ had Sean Burns, Stephen Walsh and Daniel Spillane to thank for victory as the home side have made another statement of intent like their ‘A’ side.
Youghal CYMS ‘C’ are starting to pick up their play winning at home against new boys the Ebony and Douglas ‘C’ rounded of a pretty miserable week for the Shooters club with a win in Blackpool in their match.
