Ireland's two billiards teams in the Home Internationals in Leeds last week performed excellent in finishing 2nd & 3rd with Team A of Aidan Murray and Larry Drennan and Team B of Wayne Doyle and Joe Doheny
In the very first session on Thursday evening, Ireland A unexpectedly lost 0-2 in two close finishes to a determined Ireland B side, which left our A team struggling to regain lost ground, which they did by winning every other game in the tournament except for one further point which they dropped to England A. Our B team were equally impressive throughout the rest of the tournament, dropping only two points to a strong England A side. As the tournament progressed, it was clear that the final result would hinge on whether any of the other British teams might steal a point from England A. This was not to be, however and a very strong England A team maintained a clean sheet thereafter to become worthy winners of the Home Internationals Billiards trophy for 2013.
Our lads did a great job in coming 3rd and 2nd respectively in a field of seven teams against strong English and Scottish sides, finishing well clear in points ahead of a fourth placed England B.
1st: England A: 11 points
2nd: Ireland B: 10 points
3rd: Ireland A: 9 points
4th: England B: 4 points
Joint 5th: Scotland A and Scotland B: 3 points each
7th: England C: 2 points
